On this page is important permit information, our refund policy, and frequently asked questions. If you have questions about our queen ants that aren't answered here, please reach out to me via email (atlanticants@gmail.com)!
1) Ants must not be released into the environment
Ants released into the environment pose a serious environmental risk to the environment and agriculture in your state. For what to do to dispose of the ants, see (3).
2) Do not redistribute ants purchased from this site
Ants purchased from Atlantic Ants may not be redistributed. This includes the giving away and selling of ants, as the USDA needs records of where colonies are.
3) How to dispose of the ants
Ants must disposed of by putting them in the freezer (below freezing) for 8 hours. Then, they must be placed in the trash.
Colonies die most often due to overheating (in the summer), freezing (in the winter), or flooding (during large temperature changes) while in the mailbox. Due to these factors, we request that customers pick up the package within one hour of delivery and consistently check the tracking number (customers will receive automatic email updates as well). Refunds are available to all customers whose ants die before being picked up from the mailbox within an hour of delivery.

We generally ship ants from Monday through Wednesday to avoid ants being stuck at the post office on Sunday.
Ants are labeled as plant pests by the USDA because some species pose a threat to American agriculture. Although movement inside of a state is unrestricted (with the exception of ants that are in quarantined counties, such as Solenopsis invicta), it is illegal to move ants across state lines without a PPQ-526 permit.
Our ants come in standard test tube setups. The dimensions of the test tubes we use are either 16x100mm or 16x150mm and are (generally) plastic as they are more durable.
The states that each species is available to can be found in the description for each species.
Yes, absolutely! I am located near the Tysons area in Northern Virginia. Email me and we can schedule a time for pick up.
I will email you and your order will be refunded.
Black mold is not an issue for ants in test tube setups. This type of mold does not affect the ants all that much and is perfectly safe. Green and yellow mold, however, should be removed.
If I do not have permits for your state, this means that I was either denied or, more likely, I have not applied for that species for your state yet.
